Monitoring of the courts of peace demands that monitoring executers “on the ground” – the court observers – were highly professional with a broad range of knowledge and life skills. Therefore before the commence of the monitoring in Perm region the Institute of Law and Public Policy together with “Agency Expertiza” and Fund “Civil Position” organized a training with twenty primary selected court observers. A session was opened by Lyubov Ezhova, a team leader of the Project, Olga Tsodikovich, deputy chair of the Judiciary Council of Perm Region and Marina Agaltsova, Project coordinator.

Ведущие тренинга – эксперты Института Крис Фрост, Мартин Седдон и Анна Шиловская поставили следующие цели: развить навыков групповой работы с подростками у специалистов учреждений города Москвы;

Focus group with the Justice of Peace, 25 February 2010, Perm

According to the plan of the Project implementation on 25 February 2010 in Perm a focus group with Justices of Peace (JP) and court stuff was convened. Nine JPs and ten secretaries of the court participated in the focus group. The participants came from the districts where the legal aid centers were opened. Session was commenced by Olga Sidorovich (director of the Project) and Vladimir Velyaninov (President of Perm Regional Court) and Irina Bochenkova (President of Judicial Council in perm Region).

The Highest Justice Award “Femida” for the year 2009

On 13th February, 2010 The Annual Highest Justice Award “Femida” was presented during the 14th award ceremony under the slogan “"Salus populi suprema lex esto" ("Let the good of the people be the supreme law"). Co-organizers of this award are Association of the Russian Lawyers and Moscow Club of Lawyers. In 2009 Anatoly Kovler, Russian Judge of the European Court of Human Rights, member of the Institute of Law and Public Policy Board of Trustees and member of Board of Editors of the Journal “Comparative Constitutional Review” ...

Round Table “Project “Strengthening Access to Justice for the Poor in the Russian Federation”

On 26 February 2010 in Institute of Law and Pubic Policy a round table “Project “Strengthening Access to Justice for the Poor in the Russian Federation” will be organized. This round table will aim at discussion of the Project implementation aspects. The coordinators of legal aid centers and Project team from the Institute of Law and Public Policy will participate.

Training session for the court observers

(Perm, 3-5 March, 2010)

On 3-4 March, 2010 within the Project second component “Improving Courts’ Treatment of Poor Litigants in the Civil Process” a training session for the court observers will take place. In the training twenty selected court observers will participate.

Comparative Constitutional Law:
Theory and Methodology in the Context of Constitutional Reforms

The Institute of Law and Public Policy organizes the three-year Project for young teachers from the CIS countries "Comparative Constitutional Law: Theory and Methodology in the Context of Constitutional Reforms" (2009-2012). In the course of the Project the Summer School and the Winter Session took place in 2009. The participants continue their work on individual projects.

The date and place of the Summer School 2010 will be announced later.
